The UK in the Cayman Islands

Relations between Britain and the Cayman Islands go back for hundreds of years.  In 1962 Cayman opted to remain under the British Crown and the first Governor was appointed by London in 1971.  This was quickly followed by the enacting of Cayman's first Constitution in 1972.  In May 2009, a draft Constitution was approved by public referendum and it came into force on the 6th November 2009. The Constitution devolves responsibility for internal affairs to the Cayman Islands Government while the UK looks after national security, international relations and good governance.
